How to choose
- Class aR: partial-range fuses clear short circuits and need separate overload protection.
- I2t let-through: the fuse I2t must stay below the withstand value of the thyristor or diode.
- Voltage: check both the AC rating and the DC rating, since DC values are lower for the same body.
- Current: derate for ambient temperature, cooling and harmonic load current.
- Fixing and indication: flush ends with metric or UNC threads, plus indicator or microswitch for monitoring.

Why use aR fuses for semiconductors?
Semiconductors tolerate very little energy during a fault. aR fuses have a low let-through I2t, so they open before the device is damaged.
Do semiconductor fuses protect against overload?
Not on their own. aR is a partial-range class, so add an overload device such as a relay or breaker.
