- Description
The Siemens 6ES7972-0AA02-0XA0 is a SIMATIC DP RS485 repeater that extends PROFIBUS or MPI bus systems up to 31 nodes at transmission rates from 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s. It runs on 24 V DC, draws up to 100 mA unloaded, and carries an IP20 enclosure rating with two terminal blocks for the PROFIBUS cable connections.

Selection Notes
A repeater is needed on PROFIBUS or MPI segments once a run exceeds the standard RS485 cable length or node limits for the configured baud rate, or when a segment needs galvanic isolation between two bus sections; this unit supports up to 31 nodes per extended segment. Because the transmission rate spans the full 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s PROFIBUS DP range, it works with both slow MPI segments and high-speed 12 Mbit/s DP segments without manual rate configuration. IP20 rating and 24 V DC supply keep it in the same enclosure class as standard control-cabinet components.
Applications
Extends PROFIBUS DP or MPI networks in control cabinets or across machine sections where cable length, node count, or electrical isolation between segments exceeds what a single unbroken bus run supports.
