- Description
The Schneider Electric XPSMCMCO0000EC is a Modicon MCM non-safe communication module that adds an EtherCAT connection, via two RJ45 in/out ports, to an XPSMCM safety controller for remote diagnostics. It connects over the backplane expansion connector and cannot operate stand-alone, running at 100 Mbit/s full duplex over a maximum 100 m cable segment without an additional gateway.

Selection Notes
The XPSMCMCO0000EC is a non-safe diagnostic module: it reports the connected XPSMCM safety controller's status over EtherCAT for remote monitoring but carries none of the safety function itself, expanding an existing Modicon MCM safety controller CPU and unable to run stand-alone. Choose it over the CANopen, EtherNet/IP or Modbus TCP/IP diagnostic variants when the plant's automation network is EtherCAT, or choose the RS485 safe communication module instead when the link needs safe communication rather than non-safe diagnostics.
Applications
The XPSMCMCO0000EC fits cells already running EtherCAT for drive and I/O control, letting the same master poll the safety controller's run/error status in the same cycle instead of wiring a separate diagnostic network just for the safety system. Because the module only relays status - it issues no safety commands over EtherCAT - its own failure does not affect the controller's safety outputs.
