- Description
The Siemens PS407 (6ES7407-0RA02-0AA0) is a wide-range SIMATIC S7-400 power supply module that converts 120/230V AC or DC input into a regulated 5V DC backplane rail rated at 20A, plus a 24V DC output at 1A. It occupies two rack slots and includes short-circuit protection, with an optional lithium backup battery for buffered timekeeping during power loss.

Selection Notes
At 20A on the 5V DC backplane bus, this PS407 covers denser S7-400 racks: redundant CPUs, several communication processors, or a high signal-module count that would exceed the 10A sibling's headroom. The trade-off is higher typical power draw, 158W input versus 95W, and 35W power loss instead of 20W, so plan panel cooling accordingly. Backplane current stays idling-proof on the 24V DC rail regardless of which 5V variant is fitted, and the same 20 ms NAMUR-compliant buffering time applies to both.
