This D425-2 variant is BASIC performance, so it fits machines needing up to 16 coordinated axes with millisecond-class PROFIBUS or sub-millisecond PROFINET cycle times rather than the highest-axis-count SIMOTION D4x5 models. Because drive control is integrated, built on SINAMICS S120 CU320-2 firmware, the controller and up to 6 servo axes run in the same unit without a separate SIMOTION-plus-external-drive combination, which matters when panel space or cabling budget is tight. The 16 configurable digital I/Os can each be set as DI, DO, probe input, or cam output, so one module covers both process I/O and high-speed cam-switching duties that would otherwise need a dedicated cam output card.
