The B6C single-bridge connection makes this a 2-quadrant converter: it controls armature current and speed in one direction of torque but has no regenerative braking path back to the AC line, unlike the (B6)A(B6)C 4-quadrant units in the same DCM range. That makes it the lower-cost, simpler choice for loads that run in one torque direction without needing electrical braking, such as pumps, fans, or extruders, where a 4-quadrant unit would be unnecessary. At 400 A and 485 V DC output it also sits at the high-current end of the DCM lineup, sized for larger separately excited DC motors than the 90 A and 210 A variants in the family. The D485/400 field rectifier supplies the motor's separate field winding without an external field supply.
