The 850 nm multimode LC port and 0.35-0.75 km range fit fiber runs between SCALANCE X switches on the same site rather than long-haul single-mode links; for longer distances a single-mode SFP variant is needed instead. The latched SFP form factor allows hot-swapping into a live switch port without powering down the rest of the ring.
