The Siemens 6GK1571-1AA00 CP 5711 is a USB 2.0 communications processor that connects a PG or notebook to PROFIBUS or MPI at 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s through a 9-pin Sub-D RS 485 port, and ships with a 2 m USB cable. It runs from the USB bus at 5 V/0.5 A, or from an optional external 18-30 V DC supply drawing up to 0.3 A, and mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail.

USB power from the PC or notebook removes the need for a separate power brick in the field, unlike the PCI/PCI Express cards in this family which draw power from the backplane bus and cannot be used with a notebook at all.
