The Schneider Electric ATS480M12Y is an Altivar ATS480 soft starter for 3-phase asynchronous motors, rated 1200 A continuous (Ie) in normal duty across a 208-690 V AC supply. It starts and stops motors up to 630 kW at 400 V, using torque control (TCS) to manage acceleration and deceleration and DC injection for braking to standstill. Size the ATS480M12Y to the motor's full-load current, not just its kW label: 1200 A covers motors up to 630 kW at 400 V in normal duty, while the 1045 A heavy-duty rating (500 kW) applies to loads with longer or more frequent starts, such as conveyors or compressors. Wiring the motor into the delta terminals instead of in-line lowers the current the starter itself has to switch, which is worth doing if the application sits near the top of this frame's range. The built-in torque control (TCS) shapes acceleration and deceleration to reduce mechanical shock on pumps and fans, and the dynamic braking with DC injection brings high-inertia loads to a stop without an external brake. Step up to a higher-current ATS480 model if the driven motor's nameplate current exceeds this unit's Ie; the range shares footprint, I/O and menu structure across ratings.
